2021 Estate Gewürztraminer
Tasting notes
Our old vine Gewürztraminer demonstrates heady aromatics of a briny, coastal fog on a fresh morning, with a floral expression of orange blossom, flint and saffron. The pallet opens up to complexity of pink peppercorn and wet stone, with a lingering finish of tannic peach skin.
Production notes
With a unique vision, our winemaker used the grapes from our 50 year old Gewürztraminer plantings to showcase a unique vision that culminates farming practices, winemaking, old vines, and soil type at David Hill. This Gewürztraminer was aged for 7 months in an Austrian Oval Cask, and is completely dry.

In 2021, the blooming season started rainy for most of the Willamette Valley and Tualatin Hills. Fortunately, David Hill’s vines bloomed later, resulting in abundant yields at harvest time. The overall temperatures for the season were warm, but even with the heat spikes in the summer it did not affect the vines or spike the sugar content. In fact, the dry heat of the growing season allowed for intentional hanging times for many of our varietals. The conditions of this vintage has created wines with complex flavors and aromas, making 2021 one of our favorite vintages in the last few years.
